Description
Presented is a delightful, English sterling silver lancet kit case made by Samuel Pemberton of Birmingham in 1801. The innards of the kit are missing, this would have originally been a lancet kit to drain blood, though the design of the case is such it would make an equally fine etui case for needles or vesta case/match safe, whatever you like, really. This is a fine quality, completely hand crafted piece. The hinge is tight and the push button works well, the lid snaps securely shut. The front and back are hand engraved with a lovely, bright cut band of leaves surrounded by thin, pin-prick borders. Both the lid and underside are marked SP for Samuel Pemberton. The lid is also marked with the lion passant for sterling silver and a duty mark of King George III’s head. The underside is also marked with a date letter d for the year 1801 and another worn mark, presumably the anchor mark for Birmingham.
This piece is in good condition for its age. The lid snaps securely shut and the old push button works well to unlatch the top. There are some slight dings to the piece, mostly on the top and bottom. There is also a dent to one of the bottom corners, but it is hardly noticeable. There are no splits, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The piece measures 1 1/4 by 2 1/4 inches and weighs 18 grams.
