Description
For sale a very rare set of four Sterling Silver Bat place card holders. Hallmarked around the edge of each base 'W.D' an anchor & Lion for Birmingham & the letter "B" for 1926. We believe the W.D is for William Devenport a silversmith from Birmingham, England. The four Bat pieces are nestled in their original box. These were retailed in India by 'Imric & Lawrence' by appointment to his Royal Highness the Maharajah of Patiala. This retailer had stores in Lahore & Simla. Lahore was still part of India at this time. This set is in good condition, considering it's age & any damages can be repaired by a skilled restorer, but it is being sold 'AS IS'. The silver Bats have tarnish from age, they can be polished carefully. One base was lost a long time ago & was replaced. It is lighter in weight than the other three & does not have a black covering on the bottom. Also the hallmarks are on the top rather than around the edge & they are very faint. There is a break to the support of one other Bat & another's feet are detached, please see photos. The box is worn on the outside & the silk liner under the lid is shredded. There is dust inside the box. Guaranteed to be as described or it can be returned for a full refund.Photos are part of the description please look carefully.
